Description:

There remains numerous questions on what exactly ADHD/ADD means, especially in the Gifted/2e population. Many gifted individuals, diagnosed or not, may display symptoms of ADHD without any official diagnosis leaving confusion around who they really are. So, what are the answers? Is it really ADHD or is it just characteristics that might coincide with the gifted individual? It has been established that gifted individuals have atypical metaphysical (brain/body) development due to an increased capacity for sensory information (epigenetics) that may lead to ‘hyper brain-hyper body’ characteristics. But is that really ADD/ADHD? Or just giftedness? Interestingly, there have been many reporting’s of misdiagnoses of ADD/ADHD in the gifted and twice-exceptional populations so it is important to truly understand these differences. This webinar is designed to unravel the mysteries of this question.

As such, Dr. Postma will cover the following:

🔸 What exactly does 'hyper brain-hyper body' mean, and why can it look like ADHD/ADD?
🔸 What are the risks for misdiagnosis of ADD/ADHD and intense beings?
🔸 What can I do to better understand myself or my child, and how do I let others (teachers, family, etc.) know?
🔸 What about testing?
🔸 How can you assess if a practitioner is well enough informed about Giftedness and ADHD to diagnose properly?
🔸 How do you assess whether medications are working well?
🔸 What are the benefits of having an ADHD diagnosis, and are there potential drawbacks to more labels?
