Description:

In educational systems around the world, a lack of empathy, misunderstanding, classroom training, and even misdiagnosis continues to plague the gifted/twice-exceptional student population and has left an emotional toll in its wake. School induced trauma has fractured the lives of numerous neurodiverse students resulting in long term issues such as anxiety disorders, poor classroom performance, distrust of anything related to school, and even depression. Last year, Gifted and Thriving conducted a study on the impacts of school induced trauma and received responses from more than 80 families on both quantitative and qualitative data including types of incidents, numbers of incidents, duration of said incidents, and both the short and long term effects. This data will be shared for the first time in this webinar.

You will learn about:

🔸  What does school induced trauma look like?
🔸  What are the implications of school induced trauma?
🔸  What are the short and long term effects?
🔸  How do I know my student is (or has) experienced trauma?
🔸  What can I do to help them?
🔸  What can schools do to detect and prevent this behavior?

Meet Dr. Mike Postma:

Hello! I'm Dr. Mike Postma, an educator, speaker, author, consultant and coach residing in beautiful Bellingham, WA.  Together with my wife, Julie, we have raised our own 4 gifted/2e children and know how difficult this journey can be.  That is one reason I have dedicated my life work to the holistic development of the gifted/2e community.  In my 25+ year career, I've served as a Gifted Teacher in the classroom, as an Administrator of gifted schools, as a professional developer of gifted programming and curriculum and as Executive Director of the SENG organization (Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted), and now leading our company Gifted & Thriving, LLC.  I look forward to spending time together with you to  learn how we can best teach and support this exceptional community so we can all move from a place of just surviving to THRIVING!  I look forward to the journey with you!
