Join Dr. Mike Postma, along with special guest Psychotherapist and trauma expert, Christine Turo-Shields as they share the root causes of trauma, explain the different types of trauma and how it specifically affects our neurodiverse gifted/2e individuals and will provide practical strategies for coping and healing specific trauma.

How Trauma from Past and Current Events Affects the Neurodiverse Gifted/2e Individual

In today's ongoing events of the pandemic, social isolation, illness and death, social injustice and more are affecting almost everyone in some way as we navigate through these uncertain times.  Within the Gifted/2e population trauma has always been an issue.  Many gifted individuals struggle with emotional angst, relationships, academic achievement and personal fulfillment. They often struggle with special needs/twice-exceptionalities as well. And now trying to navigate these uncertain times is even more challenging. Dr. Mike and Christine will discuss and talk in depth through these challenges and offer up many healing and helpful strategies specific to the Gifted/2e uniquely wired brain.

Valuable Discussion from Two Live Webinar Sessions with Support Materials and Recordings to Keep

Dr. Mike Postma and Psychotherapist Christine Turo-Shields will share in depth (two live sessions with over 3 hours of material/discussion), valuable and hands-on information you can implement right away. They will conclude and then have open time for live Q&A for all participants (all questions will be answered!).  In addition, you will have the webinar recordings to keep for future along with extra handouts and support materials to help you build you and/or/both your child's own personal Resilience Plan to help you navigate and heal your trauma so you can get to a more productive, peaceful and thriving life.

Trauma in the gifted/2e individual has always been an issue. In fact, given our combined work with this intense and vulnerable population, we believe that high functioning, neurodiverse individuals will experience some sort of traumatic experience in their life that, in turn, will affect in some manner, how they interact with their environment for the remainder of their lives. As such, we need to be equipped with how to recognize, confront, and cope with those effects in order to achieve the vast potential that lies inherent in these individuals. Join Christine Turo-Shields, LCSW, LCAC/EMDR Certified; and Dr. Michael Postma as they explore the intricacies of how trauma intercedes with the lives of gifted/2e individuals.

Hello! I'm Dr. Mike Postma, an educator, speaker, author, consultant and coach residing in beautiful Bellingham, WA.  Together with my wife, Julie, we have raised our own 4 gifted/2e children and know how difficult this journey can be.  That is one reason I have dedicated my life work to the holistic development of the gifted/2e community.  In my 25+ year career, I've served as a Gifted Teacher in the classroom, as an Administrator of gifted schools, as a professional developer of gifted programming and curriculum and as Executive Director of the SENG organization (Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted), and now launching our brand new company Gifted & Thriving, LLC.  I look forward to spending time together with you to  learn how we can best teach and support this exceptional community so we can all move from a place of just surviving to THRIVING!  I look forward to the journey with you!
